ASUS UL30A-X5K Review
Overview:
ASUS UL30A-X5K is a rather popular product and that for several reasons. Its 13.3 inch high-gloss LED HD display with a 1366 x 768 resolution together with Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated video graphics brings to you a very nice quality for both 720p and 1080p videos with no problem. Sadly, the webcam has a rather low quality, specially making it difficult to send clear image in dim lit rooms and the screen might be a little too reflecting under certain circumstances.
UL30A-X5K is equipped with 3 USB 2.0 ports; 1 HDMI output; 1 VGA; 5-in-1 memory card reader compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia Card (MMC), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and xD Picture Card; 1 headphone and 1 microphone jack and 10/100 Fast Ethernet.
The laptop has a 8-cell battery that the manufacturer promises up to 12 hours of battery life, though real battery life is under normal use around 8-10 hours, which is still very good. The integrated Draft-N Wi Fi provides up to five times the performance and twice the range using a 802.11n-compatible routers. The product comes with a pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and for any kind of recovery, you have to either make the disks or press F9 to restore from a partition on the hard drive.
ASUS UL30A-X5K allows you to log in with a facial recognition which might not sound like a big deal but can be quite convenient. In addition to that, the FastBoost lets you configure the startup speed by controlling which programs and applications are loaded during and after. The 500 GB hard drive is a very nice feature as well, though it might be a bit loud at times, it gives a lot of room for all your storing needs. For a laptop, also the speaker quality is quite pleasing.
At 3.74 pounds, the laptop is rather light and also slim, making it easy to carry it with you. The chiclet keys prevent dust buildup and along with the multifunctional touchpad, typing, zooming and navigating is made simple and comfortable. The touchpad does seem to be a bit too sensitive at times, though, registering your hand movements while you type. The brushed metal look makes the laptop very attractive and also protects it from getting worn out too fast, though fingerprints still seem to stick to the case.

Summary:
ASUS UL30A-X5K is a very decent laptop for people who are moving around a lot, since it’s light and slim and has a great battery life. The price is also very good for what it offers and is a great deal for students. It has to be noted, though, that this laptop is NOT meant for gaming or huge resource eating media editing, but other than that, ASUS UL30A-X5K can pretty much handle anything.
